On another note, the idea that "they" can really succeed at limiting the speech of everybody, all the time, about everything... just seems untenable at best.
It's a bridge too far. Not that they can't give it their best shot, but it's hard to see it working; It's just too oppressive and requires epic levels of surveillance.
I think that many people will quickly re-realize "the old ways" of gathering in private, speaking directly, and avoiding all of the electronic communication capture devices that make those level of speech and idea repression possible.
Let's face it, outside of email, social media, and smart phones, people could still gather and say whatever they like... and they will!
I could even see something like a "politically incorrect party" where people leave the electronics at home, and gather to say (probably in the harshest possible terms) EVERYTHING that they are not "allowed" to say, per government edicts.
People can be pretty stupid, but it won't take them too long to realize that they can say anything that they want, they just can't do it in a surveilled medium.
And at that point, there will be no controlling what we say, or think.
